In 2018, we established the Miami Barber Institute with an outlook on barber schools. This vision was jointly developed by cousins Mr. Luis Castillo (President/Co-Owner) and Mr. Tomas Castillo (Barber Instructor/Co-Owner), who aimed to create an institution that not only provides outstanding training but also equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for a truly fulfilling career in barbering.

Luis R. Castillo, cousin #1, has worked in the private sector for post-secondary education for over 20 years. He was fortunate to have a family member who owns a school and hired him at age 17 while still in high school. It has been one of the most remarkable experiences in his life to spend at least two years in just about every position, from being the clerical gopher to the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of a school that generates over four million dollars a year. These positions include Registrar, Bursar, Admissions counselor, Director of Admissions, Financial Aid officer, Academic Coordinator, and Campus Director. He eventually became the “number two guy” and “right-hand” of the owner, entirely responsible for running the day-to-day operations.

In addition, Mr. Castillo has had the opportunity to learn about compliance in this industry. He has been heavily involved in accreditation, dealing with rules and regulations from the federal and state Department of Education, as well as experienced in administering federal Title IV funds. Mr. Castillo has been part of over a dozen accreditation team visits as a certified accreditation team member for COE (accrediting agency) to review compliance at  other post-secondary schools in other states. In addition, he has also attended yearly conventions by industry leaders and attended numerous training courses related to accreditation and best practices. As a result, Mr. Castillo has been fortunate enough to develop relationships with a vast network of school owners, administrators, lawyers, consultants, and many other professionals in the industry.  

Mr. Castillo enjoys having the ability to provide people with the skills and education they need to get ahead in life and provide for themselves and their families. He looks forward to the opportunity of using his knowledge and skills to continue to build a school that can be just as rewarding to the student if not more than it is to him.

Cousin #2, Tomas J. Castillo, is an experienced Barber Instructor with over fifteen (15) years of experience. He graduated as one of the top of his class from the barber program at Beauty Schools of America and was later hired to be an instructor at their school for almost ten years. 

Mr. Castillo has been involved in many student barber events and competitions that add a nice twist to the student experience we want here at The Miami Barber Institute.  Mr. Tomas Castillo has proven knowledge and ability as a Master Barber Instructor who knows how to inspire students and give them the skills they need to succeed.

Since our beginnings, our utmost focus has been delivering top-notch instruction to our students. Through unwavering dedication, hard work, an exceptional faculty and a strong commitment, we have obtained the licenses, authorizations and accreditations to proudly establish ourselves as the leading accredited barber school in Miami Dade County.

Our main goal at Miami Barber Institute is to serve our community and those passionate about pursuing a career in barbering. Today, we take pride in having graduated over 300 students during our five years of operation. Our alums represent prepared, licensed barbers highly dedicated to their craft. Many of them have gone on to establish their thriving businesses or secure positions at diverse barber shops across Florida.
