Sharpen Your Skills—and Your Voice: Cutz & Convos Returns with a Twist on May 21
At Miami Barber Institute, every fade tells a story—and this time, you’re choosing how it’s said.
On Wednesday, May 21, at 6:00 PM, we’re bringing back Cutz & Convos, our signature live demo series that blends technical education with real barbershop energy. This edition is all about shear work—layering, texture, structure—and we’re putting the decision in your hands. You vote for the cut. @alfrethebarber makes it happen live.
This free session is open to students, alums, and barbers. And more than that—it’s a warm-up for something much bigger.
Cutz & Convos is where MBI blends classroom technique with street-level creativity. In this session, you’ll get an inside look at how to control texture, build structured volume, layer for movement, and refine shape with detail using shears. Whether you’re still in school or already cutting behind the chair, this is a chance to level up your skills and see how professionals break down a cut, live and unfiltered.
And this time, the featured look is your call. Head to our Instagram or Facebook, check out the three styles and comment on A, B, or C. The cut with the most votes will be recreated live during the event.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what you’re choosing from:
- Cut A is clean, classic, and structured—a high-volume pompadour with a tight skin fade. It’s a great way to sharpen your graduation, tapering, and blending techniques while mastering a timeless silhouette that keeps clients coming back.
- Cut B brings texture, flow, and a fashion-forward edge. It’s a layered look with a burst fade, perfect for learning how to create controlled movement and modern shape with shears.
- Cut C is bold and creative. This punk-inspired cut is about artistic expression—advanced asymmetry, negative space, texture, and personalized detail. If you’re looking to push the boundaries, this is the one.
The May 21 demo is just the beginning.
We’re setting the tone for a significant event at MBI: the all-day June 22 Masterclass with Héctor R. Recarte and Alfre the Barber. This high-level, ticketed session dives deeper into methodologies, refinement, and shear techniques taught by two masters of the craft.
